K4 version 6.2 with full Adobe CS5 support now available from MEI

Press release from the issuing company

Jenkintown, PA - Managing Editor Inc. (MEI), an Adobe premier development partner and a leading provider of software solutions for the publishing industry, today announced that Version 6.2 of the vjoon K4 Cross-Media Publishing Platform is now available. This latest K4 release is fully compatible with Adobe Creative Suite 5 and is packed with new features that boost its capabilities as the world's most versatile multi-channel workflow management system.

German developer vjoon has fine-tuned K4 to integrate seamlessly with the latest update to Adobe's preeminent software package. In conjunction with the new features in CS5 - including InDesign's enhanced support for interactivity, animation, sound and video in layouts - K4 Version 6.2 is the optimal solution for managing multimedia publishing. K4 facilitates the production of content not just for print and Web but also for portable devices and e-readers including the Apple iPad, Amazon Kindle, Google Android platforms and more.

In addition to CS5 support, K4 6.2 includes several updates for improved collaboration and output. K4's "sticky notes" feature provides instant messaging directly on InDesign layouts, allowing real-time communication among any users with access to the document. In K4 6.2, sticky notes also work with the browser-based K4 Overview Advanced, making it easy for non-client users to participate in the "live chat" and request changes to layouts from previews.

Another new feature in K4 Overview Advanced is "prediction mode," which displays previews of how layouts would appear with all objects updated. With this tool, editors can, for example, see the effects of their edits without asking the designer to update the InDesign layout manually.

K4 6.2 also enhances the creative team's ability to manage alternative layout designs. This feature lets users produce and easily preview any number of different layout options in parallel, with changes to source articles and photos updated on all of the layout designs from the database.

In K4, the same content is not simply reused for different channels. Instead, the system's task-based architecture easily adapts articles, layouts and more to meet the demands of specific media as those objects move through different workflows. By empowering users to publish to as many different outlets as desired using one production system integrated with the latest industry-preferred software, K4 improves efficiency and provides the flexibility to meet the needs of emerging digital platforms quickly.

"We recognized that our customers want to take advantage of new features as soon as they are available, and we wanted to ensure the best compatibility possible," said Linda Bruce, vice president of enterprise sales at MEI. "K4 and CS5 offer the most compelling capabilities for publishing to various e-reading platforms with ease and repeatability while maintaining the high standards and brand recognition publishers demand."
