New generation Baumer hhs system presented at IPEX

Press release from the issuing company

Visitors to the IPEX fair in Birmingham (May 18-25, booth 20B612) will be the first to see the next generation gluing and quality assurance in corrugated board processing. On first sight there is a touch screen more than doubling the size of its predecessor and blank guides open to both sides. Renowned for its solidity, Baumer hhs added modularity features that ease entry level solutions and at the same time extended camera verification.

The market leader in the field of gluing and monitoring in corrugated cardboard box making – Baumer hhs GmbH in Germany – has extensively optimised the familiar system. The key components that have been used up to now, such as the high pressure piston pump and the familiar water bath, are naturally retained in their previous form.

The 3-nozzle head and glue sensor can now be easily moved from one side of the machine to the other. This significantly reduces cost and set up time when changing from inside glue flaps to outside glue flaps. Still something of a rarity, the demand for outer glue flaps will increase in the future, due to rising numbers of automatic packaging lines. In this respect, the quick and easy exchange of the application heads and monitoring camera will become of significant importance.

Monitoring with live view camera!
Baumer hhs are once again setting the standard – the virtually 100 % monitoring of gluing or aspects of the products. The advantage of the new camera verification systems is the full integration of gluing and monitoring. A single setup by the operator is sufficient to allow the two systems to work in coordination with each other.

The entry level MLT-40 sensor enables monitoring of gluing. Are the glue lines where they are supposed to be? Is the machine feed correct? If a production log is required for the customer's benefit, an integrated solution – namely, gluing and monitoring – is the answer.

In addition to the advantages of the MLT sensor, the camera system with live picture and PC technology provides even further options. The operator sees a live picture of the glue flap throughout the entire production in real time. Even die cutting waste that is covering the glue flap is detected. The production management can see the live picture at the same time on a screen in the office or save and e-mail a production log in PDF format. Even a connection to the plant data collection system can be established.

PC technology gives rise to entirely new ways of monitoring and reporting. At the same time the corrugated cardboard industry is subject to constant change. Quality concepts, monitoring and reporting are becoming ever more important. Baumer hhs is facing up to these challenges with the development of new technologies in conjunction with manufacturers in this industry.
