Photographer Carl De Keyzer chooses Scheufelen's photo paper

Press release from the issuing company

Among fellow professionals, Belgian Carl De Keyzer is regarded as one of the great photojournalists of our age. His work is represented in numerous collections the world over. Congo, his latest opus, creates a  sharp image of Congo today.

The unique series of photographs with historical importance has re-cently been on display in the Antwerp FotoMuseum, Belgium. The ex-hibition mirrors the "Congo" art print book published in tandem by the Lannoo publishing house, Belgium. Rudy Van Hoey was already shad-owing De Keyzer's "Europa" book. Together with the designer respon-sible, Luc Derycke, Production Manager Van Hoey also chose the unique premium paper PhoeniXmotion, produced by the German Pa-pierfabrik Scheufelen in Lenningen, for De Keyzer's latest work, "Congo". The refined print carrier combines the qualities of touch of natural paper with the perfect look and printability of coated paper. As a full member of the renowned Magnum photo agency, De Keyzer puts a premium on total reproduction quality and emotionality in his books of photography.

De Keyzer followed the sightseeing route from colonial times just as in an old tour guide. The photojournalist travelled through the country for more than ten months, sometimes under extremely dangerous condi-tions. His pictures penetrate the present-day Belgian Congo without ignoring the Belgian legacy. In doing so he not only chronicles the in-fluence of urbanistic and architectural colonialisation, but also makes a photographic study of the causes of the situation today – the chaos in and decay of the country. Instead of staging his pictures he creates permanent focuses through skilful use of light. Sophisticated, professi-onal and uncompromising.

"Congo", the multiple award-winning photographer's opus, can still be seen in the Antwerp FotoMuseum until mid-May 2010. There are plans for further exhibitions in Europe. Papierfabrik Scheufelen will continue its longstanding tradition and carry on developing its paper qualities for sophisticated and sustainable projects further.
