Xerox senior research fellow Peter Crean is the latest winner of the Robert F. Reed Technology Medal from the Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA), part of the Printing Industries of America (PIA) network. The prestigious award recognizes scientists and engineers who contributed to significant improvements in the graphic communications industry.

Dr. Crean's work has spanned four decades touching the entire lifecycle of a printed piece. Throughout his tenure, Crean has made major innovations within key industry technologies during their early stages of development. Notable accomplishments include:
- Developed the first laser printer with two other engineers
- Built the first CCD high quality, high speed document scanner
- Played a significant role in the group that formed the earliest version of Xerox DocuTech technology, the world's most successful monochrome digital press
- Leadership in all of Xerox's color programs for the past 20 years, including Xerox's cutting  edge iGen technology
- One of the first engineers  to incorporate sales team and customer feedback into the development of new technologies

The award honors Robert F. Reed, who contributed extensively to the lithographic process and materials space.

Dr. Crean joined Xerox in 1970 after earning his Ph.D. in Physics at Princeton University. Crean is a member of the Xerox research Center Webster where he works on future printing technologies, with current color product programs and on intellectual property development.  He is one of two Sr. Fellows from the company's more than 10,000 scientists and engineers. He also holds 40 US patents dealing with digital image processing, ink jet printing, xerographic printing, and color systems.
