GPO Works During Snowstorms & Government Closings

Press release from the issuing company

WASHINGTON-As the Washington D.C. area measured the snow by the foot and struggled to dig out after two devastating snowstorms, employees at the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) braved the elements to print important materials for The White House and Congress.  Even after the federal government closed, more than 200 GPO employees, which included plant workers, police officers and facility crews, traveled from distances as far as Baltimore and Richmond to produce The Economic Report of the President. These efforts by employees ensured this job for President Barack Obama was completed on time.  GPO employees also produced and delivered the Congressional Record and the Federal Register.

"Our employees are among the most dedicated workforce one could find.  I am extremely proud of the effort GPO put in during these snowstorms to meet the deadlines of Congress and The White House," said Public Printer Bob Tapella. "Inclement weather will not prevent GPO from meeting the needs of our customers and from Keeping America Informed on the documents of our democracy."
