New callas pdfaPilot 2.1 converts Microsoft Office docs directly to PDF/A

Press release from the issuing company

Berlin - callas software announces pdfaPilot 2.1, adding direct conversion of Microsoft Office documents, spreadsheets and presentations to rule-compliant PDF/A, the accepted and recommended worldwide ISO standard for archiving. The move makes it substantially easier for many thousands of organizations worldwide to more quickly implement their respective archiving strategies. All mainstream MS Office formats, including doc, rtf, xls, csv, ppt, docx, xlsx, and pptx; are supported.

pdfaPilot 2.1 also offers new features that improve document conversion to PDF/A-1a, which supports accurate presentation on eBook readers and mobile devices.

Another highlight is pdfaPilot 2.1's support for automatic conversion of PDF files with transparent objects, such as shadows or translucent elements, to PDF/A. Until now, this had been a particularly difficult obstacle for sites needing to move files with transparency -- caused, for example, by shaded or overlapping elements in Powerpoint presentations -- to the accepted PDF/A format.
