Gold for Scheufelen Wall Calendar 2010

Press release from the issuing company

The Scheufelen Wall Calendar entitled "Think Big!" won gold at the 60th International Calendar Show in Stuttgart. The winners were chosen from among some 1,300 entries submitted to the Calendar Show from all over the world. The company was presented with the award on January 21, 2010 by Roland Bertsch, member of the judging panel and Chairman of Graphischer Klub Stuttgart (Graphic Club of Stuttgart), and Erwin Müller, Economics Minister of Baden-Württemberg.

Dr. Ulrich Scheufelen, Irmgard Glanz, Head of Marketing at Scheufelen, and Sabrina Regber, Marketing Scheufelen, accepted the award together with representatives of the Strichpunkt design agency. The Calendar Show is one of the world's leading calendar exhibitions and is an important platform for Europe's print and media industry. The criteria that the panel uses to judge the entries include interesting design concepts, production quality, material selection, functionality, creativity and originality.

Scheufelen has raised the bar for creativity once again with its 2010 Wall Calendar "Think Big!", highlighting the fact that major brand identities really make it big when presented on Scheufelen paper. The designers at Strichpunkt design agency took this concept literally and matched big brands with big designs. True to the precepts of Andy Warhol, they came to the conclusion that, when it comes down to it, big brands are essentially art. With this in mind, they created abstract artworks by zooming in on the smallest details of world-renowned brands.

Idea, design and printing expertise have been combined to create a prize-winning calendar that really impressed the panel.

Each page of the calendar depicts the logos of high-profile brands in a new and distinctive form. The pictures give free rein to imagination, calling on observers to recall the shapes and colours of well-known brands such as Canon, HP, IBM, IKEA, McDonald's, SAP and Siemens. The artworks' aesthetic appeal is really brought out by the coated papers they are printed on – PhoeniXmotion, Consort Royal, Job Parilux and heaven 42.

The production notes in the appendix explain the finishes that have been used, such as iriodin varnish, hot-foil stamping and spot varnish. Once more, Scheufelen's wall calendar reveals the company's talent for combining the art of printing with a passion for high-quality coated papers, culminating in the perfect combination of both visual and tactile elements.
