SGP Partnership announces the eleventh certified SGP Printer

Loveland, Ohio - The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership welcomes the addition of Consolidated Printing as the eleventh printer to become a certified SGP Printer. Since opening the certification program just over a year ago, the SGP Partnership has received a steady flow of applications from facilities wanting to be recognized for their sustainability efforts. In addition to the 11 certified SGP Printers, there are more than 50 SGP Applicants working through the certification process.

Consolidated Printing is a full service commercial printing company located in Chicago, IL. The facility's prepress department is computer to plate and chemical free, CIP3 (setting color information from computer directly to press). Their printing equipment is sheet fed with perfecting capabilities, Jet envelope printing, digital printing with variable data and a state of the art bindery. All of their printing equipment runs with100% wind power and natural processes that are American made. Consolidated's digital equipment is fuser oil free with same size toner. In 1973 Marilyn Jones, owner of Consolidated Printing, realized the printing process contained many hazardous chemicals and began the search for safer alternatives and the PrintedgreenTM process was born. This process has no hazardous waste, waste water, or hazardous air pollution. The facility reuses or recycles 100 percent of its paper waste; has eliminated petroleum 100% and zero carcinogens with no detectable lead or other toxic heavy metals in the ink. Consolidated is a certified woman owned business (WBE), union and FSC certified. In 2009, Ms. Jones was recognized by Printing Industries of America and received the William D. Schaeffer Environmental Award recognizing her long term commitment to environmental issues within the graphic arts community.

Printing facilities located in the United States and Canada are eligible to apply for certification with the SGP Partnership. A complete listing of certified SGP Printers (and SGP Applicants) is available at www.sgppartnership.org to provide easy identification of printers on their sustainability journey.

The SGP Printer is fully verified as being in conformance with established program criteria. These criteria encompass a holistic approach to sustainability, going beyond consumables and their environmental impact. SGP Printers must meet all applicable environmental, health and safety
requirements and commitments, along with specific requirements relating to the establishment of a sustainability team; the implementation of a sustainability management system (SMS); the use of SGP program metrics; taking specific steps to reduce the facility's environmental footprint; implementing pollution prevention activities; and committing to fundamental social and ethical norms. Additionally, SGP Printer status includes annual reporting and a biennial certification audit requirement. Certified printers are assigned a certification number and logo for use on their printed products to indicate it was "Printed by a SGP Printer."
