Italian Printer installs Diana X 115 from Heidelberg

Press release from the issuing company

Italian packaging print shop Cartotecnica Grafica Vicentina (CGV) is boosting its global production operations with one of the first Diana X 115 folder gluers from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). In comparative testing with a competitor's product, the Diana X 115 scored highly with its production of sophisticated folding cartons and high productivity. "Another reason we opted for this product is the professional advice and high level of service that Heidelberg can offer us," explains Luigi Campagnaro, owner of CGV after the machine has been installed. Thanks to intensive preparatory and on-the-job training provided by Heidelberg engineers, machine operators are now able to get the most out of the Diana X 115.

The Diana X 115 was launched at drupa 2008. The machine supports a wide range of outputs and formats, enabling customers to manufacture all kinds of folding cartons. It processes folding carton blanks in formats from 45 millimeters (1.77 inches) to 1,150 millimeters (45.28 inches) at a maximum speed of up to 650 meters (2,130 feet) per minute with an output of over 200,000 cartons an hour. Heidelberg has sold a number of other Diana X 115 folder gluers and these will be installed in Europe and beyond in the near future.

One of the most important CGV's customer asked it to produce a special type of carton that could be processed by the existing packers. The Diana X 115 was able to manufacture this special carton with shorter makeready times, thereby boosting productivity. These benefits also come into play when manufacturing 4- and 6-corner boxes and processing other special cartons.

Based in the Venice region, CGV was founded in 1970. The current 8,000 m² production area is home to a workforce of 70. CGV's customers include publishing companies and businesses from the food and electronics industries. It primarily manufactures specialty folding cartons in all shapes and sizes. In 2008, the company produced more than 150 million cartons, and growth is continuing year on year. "For us, innovation is a key to success," underlines Luigi Campagnaro "We therefore ensure that we use first-class equipment and can offer our customers special, high-quality products and short delivery times," he adds. Since1996, CGV has been certified to ISO 9001 2000.

The full-service print shop's production operation is based around three sheetfed offset presses, three die cutters, one laminator, and three folder gluers - the new Diana X 115, a Diana Pro 94, and a Diana 165. All three gluers can be connected to the existing Japack Pro packer and to Jagfeed, a module upstream of the feeder that ensures fast speeds by delivering blanks in a shingled stream.

Heidelberg has been active on the packaging printing market for many years now. At drupa 2008, the company launched its first integrated production and software solution from a single source. Its portfolio includes solutions for prepress, press, postpress, and their integration based on the Prinect workflow.

The new large-format series Speedmaster XL 145 and Speedmaster XL 162 round off the top end of the sheetfed offset portfolio. These presses have been designed primarily for use in the packaging printing and industrial publishing sectors. Die cutters and folder gluers are available for postpress in the packaging printing sector. Services, training, and tried-and-tested consumables marketed under the Saphira name complete the portfolio.
