PraxisDialog 29: Efficient Time Management for Sheetfed Offset

The PraxisDialog in Offenbach in November presented methods and solutions for optimized processes in the sheetfed offset sector.

Less expensive, better, and faster: time is tight and the requirements for printing companies continue to increase. Customers want high-quality products in the shortest possible times. manroland brought together around 80 participants from six countries at the PraxisDialog and presented methods and strategies for cost-conscious time management. The formula: the best technological prerequisites, optimum preparation and post-processing using the right networking software, and highly skilled employees. Sascha Ehrenberg kicked off the event by presenting a report on the makeready champion, the ROLAND 700 DirectDrive, which helps increase the efficiency of job changes. He explained the ins and outs of direct drive and supporting features that ensure time-saving publishing with added value. Michael Kappler from odd GmbH & Co. KG expanded on his experiences with the DirectDrive press: Its unusually high level of productivity has led to lasting savings.

Direct connection, fast communication
printnet networks the presses integrated in the workflow. Marcel Hänggeli from Zeiler AG in Switzerland affirms the time advantages achieved in job preparation, the process cycle, and reporting thanks to this networking. The live demonstration, too, was completely geared towards improving time management efficiency: participants could experience the short makeready times and fast speed of the presses using a ten-color ROLAND 700 DirectDrive with perfecting to produce three printing jobs with two job changes. An InlineColorPilot used before and after perfecting ensured a stable printing process and a reduction in paper waste.

The sum of all processes makes the difference
After you have combined technology and processing in a manner that saves time, you need highly skilled employees who can ensure proper implementation. Harald Hesper of manroland presented an individual program for employee qualification that thoroughly examines the time efficiency of workflows at a printing company using special analysis methods. This lets you compare the status quo to the target state, uncover potentials for optimization, and specifically work on those areas. One user corroborated the usefulness of this program and aroused the interest of the participants, resulting in a lively exchange of opinions and experiences in the follow-up discussion.
