VIDEK adds advanced real-time color-matching capabilities

Press release from the issuing company

Rochester, NY – Videk today announced the release of an advanced color-matching tool, enhancing the company's DocuVision 8600 Color Print Verification System. This new feature enables operators to define and monitor mission-critical color quality, for items such as corporate logos or brand colors, in real-time as they are printed. Using a "golden image" standard against which the entire job is gauged, operators use real-world printed output to define correct color and the acceptable margin of deviation – assuring consistent quality throughout continuous inkjet print runs.

"Factors including paper stock used, pre-printed form stock, environmental conditions and functioning of the printer itself can all cause variability in color." said Jim Reda, Chief Technology Officer, Videk. "Working closely with our customers and print vendor partners to define use-case requirements, we set out to create a solution that met the challenges existing in today's high speed color inkjet operations. This new tool automates a process that would otherwise be left to the operator's eye, and provides a uniquely accurate method of selecting color matches using real-world output as a master quality template."

The DocuVision 8600 is a vision-based, full-page color print inspection system, providing 100% inspection of every document at web speeds up to 500 feet per minute and widths up to 40" (120cm) – making it an optimal solution for high-volume transactional and transpromo applications. The system's extensive suite of inspection functionalities include streak detection, barcode reading and verification, MICR and alpha-numeric text recognition, as well as page registration measurement and perforation / micro-perforation detection.

The newly released color-matching tool enables:

•    Selection of specific single color regions that must be matched throughout the print job
•    Adjustment of acceptable fluctuation ranges
•    Customization of error detection response settings, ranging from on-screen operator notification to printer shut-down
•    Storage & recall of all defined settings for use on future print jobs

This new feature is complemented by Videk's existing real-time color registration measurement capability, which enables isolation and monitoring of CMYK channels to ensure each is present and properly placed. Combined, these functionalities deliver the industry's most robust color quality assurance available.

Color-matching is available now with the DocuVision 8600 Color Print Verification System, as well as via a software upgrade package for existing system installations. For more information, visit www.videk.com or call 1-800-24-VIDEK
