Press release from the issuing company

WASHINGTON -- The United States Government Printing Office is a national leader in meeting the post September 11th security challenges of creating and distributing Government documents. GPO's Security and Intelligent Documents Business Unit is producing and securing U.S. passports, Social Security cards and Treasury checks. GPO's Director of Product Security Kevin Kaporch has been named to the Board of Directors of the Document Security Alliance (DSA) as a Government advisor. The DSA was formed after the 2001 terrorist attacks. The alliance is a public/private partnership of more than 75 companies and 15 Government Agencies dedicated to improving security documents and procedures by drawing upon the knowledge and detailed technical disciplines of its members. Some of the members include officials from the U.S. Secret Service, Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Social Security Administration. "DSA welcomes the expert advice in security technology that Kevin and GPO brings in responding to the fight of staying ahead of counterfeiters and improving the security for Government documents," said Kathleen Phillips, President of DSA. Kaporch has more than three decades of investigative and security technology experience. He worked at the FBI for 20 years and more than 10 years in the Inspectors General community. Kaporch's current role at GPO is to manage the security and integrity of the Electronic Passport Program activities and associated functions of the Security and Intelligent Document operations including supply chain security and counter-intelligence measures. Kaporch also serves on the Board of Directors of the North American Security Products Organization (NASPO) as a Government advisor. NASPO created the American National Standards Institute "Security Assurance Standards for the Document and Product Security Industry". "This appointment to DSA shows the confidence others have in the accomplishments GPO has made in securing some of the country's most important documents," said GPO's Director of Product Security Kevin Kaporch. "I am honored to represent GPO in helping to issue security advice on the Federal Standards for driver's licenses, birth certificates and other documents." The GPO is the Federal Government's primary centralized resource for gathering, cataloging, producing, providing, authenticating, and preserving published U.S. Government information in all its forms. GPO is responsible for the production and distribution of information products and services for all three Branches of the Federal Government. In addition to publication sales, GPO makes government information available at no cost to the public through GPO Access (www.gpoaccess.gov), and through partnerships with more than 1,250 libraries nationwide participating in the Federal Depository Library Program.
