A saddle stitch solution with zero tolerance for errors

Press release from the issuing company

The highly complex, integrated processes of print manufacturing and finishing afford various opportunities for production error – yet little room for customer forgiveness.  With a proven history for increasing quality and customer satisfaction, K/P chose Muller Martini.

K/P Corporation – who provides commercial offset, digital variable print on-demand, finishing, direct mail, fulfillment and distribution services to some of the world's leading consumer brands – recently installed a Muller Martini BravoPlus T, configured with six pockets plus a cover feeder with ASIR (Automatic Signature Image Recognition), SEMKO side caliper, small booklet attachment and center cut knife for two-up books.

The BravoPlus T Saddle Stitcher features high flexibility and can handle a wide range of sizes.  Its simple touchscreen operation allows production to be controlled and monitored centrally, leading to optimal production reliability and high net output.  All folded signature types are processed into impeccably stitched and trimmed brochures.  The stitcher can be expanded to feed up to 14 signatures or 12 signatures with a cover folder feeder.  In addition, the saddle stitcher is JDF capable and can be integrated into the digital workflow.  "It allows us to maintain the highest manufacturing quality standards and efficiencies with maximum flexibility to accommodate our customers many sizes," commented David L. Bates, VP Operations of K/P's Central Region.

K/P Corporation currently uses stitching equipment from Muller Martini, so there exists a well-established trust between the two organizations.  Mr. Bates stated, "Since we have a familiarity with Muller equipment, we knew less training would be required during installation.  Moreover, when it came to making our purchasing decision to add the BravoPlus T to the line, we realized that most of the other equipment companies provide after-market add-ons for signature recognition.  Muller's signature capability is fully integrated.  In addition, our downtime with Muller Martini equipment is minimal, and their parts and service support have been excellent."

According to Mr. Bates, the BravoPlus T Saddle Stitcher has achieved significant improvements to K/P Corporation's finishing operation, including:

•    Efficient and faster speeds.  With ASIR signature recognition, stitch sensor and side caliper lets them run confidently at higher speeds.  Plus, there's an even greater comfort level that every book is perfect – although they're now running twice the run speed or better than the old stitcher.

•    Higher production and faster make readies.  The BravoPlus' small book attachment is a fast make ready and has eliminated running a book oversize and trimming on a flatbed cutter.  The center cut knife is also a very fast make ready and is reducing the hours spent on longer runs.

The benefits provided by the BravoPlus T Saddle Stitcher are compelling, but perhaps, most importantly, according to Mr. Bates:  "Our customers are very pleased with our investment.  And when all is said and done, customer satisfaction is the bottom line."
