3/5/07 -- KBA North America, a leading press manufacturer based in Williston, VT, is introducing a new feature to its popular closed-loop Densitronic S scanning Spectrodensitometer system that will significantly reduce waste. Densitronic is a fantastic addition to KBA presses, measuring both the density and spectral values on the x and y axis, meaning it reads anywhere on the sheet. This unique new feature, Dynamic Control, will make an even greater difference to printers. Dynamic Control calculates ink surges based on a reference sheet and opens the ink keys to a specific target according to what is needed to achieve the reference densities. This significantly reduces spoilage and waste while streamlining jobs faster than ever before. Since its introduction last year, several North American customers have installed Dynamic Control on their presses and have seen the dramatic effect of lower makeready and higher profits. Putting printers in control “Printers are trying to be more mindful of their color control, especially with high quality fast turnaround work,” says Crystal Flutur, KBA product specialist. “Densitronic S with Dynamic Control is the solution. This new feature puts printers in even more control of their work by drastically reducing makeready waste on press as well as reducing the number of sheets up to full press production.” Dynamic Control is an optional software feature that is available immediately to printers using KBA presses with Densitronic S scanning densitometer systems. New system installations will be activated during the first training session. Re-fitting is possible of all KBA presses from 1995 to the present. Re-fitting of the press console is not necessary in most cases. Sets KBA apart from other press manufacturers “Dynamic Control on the Densitronic S sets KBA apart from other press manufacturers,” says Flutur. “For example, the typical inking unit construction of another press manufacturer can need up to 900 sheets to adjust the values. Even the fast-reacting units used on a KBA press can lead to up to 700 sheets to adjust color. With Dynamic Control, the reference density is reached at a set number of sheets. Even in zones with 5% area coverage and less the reference can be reached at about 120 sheets.” The KBA Densitronic S is a combined density and color measuring system for quality control both during and after printing. Unlike other systems, Densitronic S also permits direct measurements within the image. Deviations from defined target densities, color values and other quality parameters (dot gain, trapping, etc.) are recognized and displayed not only reliably, but also very quickly in comparison to hand-held measuring devices. With integration for online control, the density and spectral deviations are converted into corrective adjustments for the individual ink keys. The Densitronic S controls the density and spectral parameters of each sheet by measuring along control strips or directly on the image.
