WoodWing makes iPhone apps affordable for every publisher

Press release from the issuing company

Zaandam, The Netherlands – At IFRA 2009 WoodWing Software announced a new service allowing publishers and corporations to offer their readers a branded iPhone newsreader via the Apple App Store. Such an application allows them to deliver content from the publisher's content management system directly to the iPhone. Typically the development of an iPhone application can prove costly, and the application needs to pass a release process by Apple.

With the new hosted service called Smart News, WoodWing enables publishers and corporations to offer a newsreader iPhone application. With a few simple steps, they can provide their news to their online audience through a stylish-looking iPhone interface.

Erik Schut, President of WoodWing Software, said: "Our innovative Smart News service fits perfectly into our strategy of enabling publishers to easily address virtually any available channel to reach their audience, whether it is print, Web, e-mail, SMS or Social Media like Twitter, Flickr, Facebook and YouTube – and mobile devices like the iPhone."

Getting a branded iPhone newsreader could not be easier. Publishers only have to provide WoodWing with their corporate design elements and can also select their own colors and icons to use inside the app. WoodWing creates the branded iPhone newsreader, takes care of the integration with the customer's CMS, and makes it available for download in Apple's App Store.

The application will fetch the news from the publishers content management system, Web site or RSS feed. Smart News does not require any other WoodWing solution and can be used with any CMS, including WoodWing's Enterprise platform. WoodWing also takes care of the hosting of the news for retrieval by the iPhone.

The newsreader supports text, images and video, both for editorial content and advertisements and offers:
• Easy navigation
• Bookmark functions for favorite news headlines
• Search functionality
• Direct access to contact information
• Possibility for users to add their own RSS feeds
• Shake the device to load the latest news
• Statistics about your readers' behavior

The full service including the creation of the application, the sign-off process for the App Store plus the ongoing hosting of the content for the access by the iPhones will be charged with 499 Euro per month.

As a demo, WoodWing offers a newsreader providing news about WoodWing and WoodWing solutions in Apple's App Store.
