VSOP from Muller Martini: variable size printing for optimum flexibility

Press release from the issuing company

The VSOP web offset printing press for flexible packaging and cardboard box printing uses simple and rapid size changes to its advantage.  Thanks to sleeve technology, print sizes can be changed easily without having to exchange the entire printing inserts, so this process is not just quick and simple; it is also exceptionally cost effective for print lengths that change frequently.

Printers today are always on the lookout for new ideas and market opportunities and Variable Sleeve Offset Printing (VSOP) technology can help you make the most of these opportunities.  Using the VSOP series acquired from Drent Goebel, Muller Martini will launch a new line of variable size web presses offering flexible package printing and cardboard box printing at the end of 2009.  Two light cartridges, known as sleeves, are the only parts that need to be exchanged in order to change the print size.  These variable size cartridges, which contributed to the success of flexo printing, are becoming increasingly popular for offset printing applications.  VSOP printing units are infinitely variable for all print image lengths, giving printers an incredibly flexible printing press that is suitable for an almost endless order spectrum, as a complete job changeover is possible within a matter of minutes.

VSOP is a total solution for a whole range of applications and is used in the following markets:
•    Label printing:  wet-glue labels, roll labels made of paper or film, self-adhesive labels, in-mold labels, shrink films
•    Flexible package printing:  films, laminate, food packaging
•    Cardboard box printing:  folding boxes, beverage packaging

The variable size print promotes great production flexibility thanks to quick and simple size and order changes, and the VSOP printing units also deliver the high level of printing quality needed to meet the tough requirements of the package printing market.  These printing methods are also significantly more cost-effective and are available much more quickly than in flexo and gravure printing, meaning they are also profitable for small and medium-size runs, while their low weight makes the VSOP printing unit sleeves extremely easy to handle.  An optimized UV or electron beam drying unit, which almost completely eliminates odors, also makes the VSOP a viable option for manufacturing high-quality, flexible food packaging.

Our VSOP technology combines the utmost functionality and a comprehensive application range with optimum operating convenience and comfort.
