FWA Drukwerk installs second Presstek 52DI digital offset press

Press release from the issuing company

London – Presstek, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing solutions, today announced that FWA Drukwerk, a mid-sized printer and envelope supplier based in Zoetermeer, Holland, has acquired its second Presstek 52DI digital offset press from Presstek distributor, Alpha 7.

Frans Wensing founded FWA in 2000, and was later joined by partner Cor van 't Holt and Wensing's son Raymond Wensing.  The business was growing rapidly, and Wensing knew he needed to upgrade his production platform. "We needed a press that could handle stationery and envelopes, and we wanted offset quality.  But we did not want the complexity of a conventional offset press which has too large of a footprint, both physically and environmentally.  We acquired our first Presstek 52DI press in December 2007.  By July 2009, our volume had grown so much that we needed to add a second 52DI press."

FWA chose to work with Presstek distributor Alpha 7, as a respected supplier in the market, in the acquisition of both presses. "We have full confidence in Alpha 7," added Wensing. "They guided us with the first press and trained our people.  The second press only took a week to install, and we were producing saleable work within three weeks."

FWA produces work for government agencies as well as commercial organizations, including brochures, house magazines, stationery, envelopes, note pads and more.  The environment aspect of the 52DI press is highly valued by FWA's customers. "One of our customers is Laladoo, an organization that develops environmentally friendly baby products," explains Wensing.  "The fact that the Presstek 52DI uses a chemistry-free platemaking process and vegetable-based inks means that this truly 'green' press fits perfectly with Laladoo's 'green' baby concept.  They also like the fact that the press uses waterless inks.  This not only helps us turn their work faster, but it conserves a significant amount of water as compared to conventional offset printing processes."

FWA has big plans for its second 52DI press. "We have an extensive sales team in place," says Wensing, "as well as three press operators. Our goal is to run the DI presses for a total of 120 hours per week and generate 25 million impressions per year, and we are quite confident that we will quickly reach that goal. In addition to all of the advantages of the DI press, we focus on building strong customer relationships.  It is not simply about printing a job, but more about being a problem solver in helping our customers bring to market a perfect printed piece."

FWA prides itself on its full service offerings, from desktop publishing to printing, finishing and logistics, all under one roof. "The extreme automation, consistent quality and waterless printing process make it easy for us to print the job in the morning and fold it in the same day," added Wensing, "accommodating increasingly tight delivery schedules. Waterless printing also delivers much brighter colors and a wider color gamut than conventional offset. Our customers love it, and so do we!"

"The fact that FWA has invested in a second DI press so quickly is a great endorsement for the product, and also reflects just how fast the company is growing," said Raphael Levi, Presstek Regional Sales Manager for Scandinavia, Benelux, Iberia, North and West Africa. "FWA is a far-sighted company – it understands that implementing leading-edge technology is an essential component of any business growth strategy. The second 52DI press will play a key role as the company explores new markets and targets further expansion."
