Alpharetta -- Apago Inc., a software technology company that provides innovative solutions to transform digital documents, today announces that Alabama-based DDP LLC has selected Apago's PDF Enhancer to power ChartCapture, its paperless office system for the medical industry. PDF Enhancer is a workflow tool that automates the assembly, preparation, and optimization of PDFs for print, the Web, and archiving. This multi-function optimization tool is seamlessly integrated into the ChartCapture desktop scanning and software system and is a pivotal component in DDP's paperless endeavor. PDF Enhancer automatically outputs scanned charts to PDF, reducing the file sizes, and optimizing color. This provides users with the ability to quickly view online PDF-based charts, which depict the minute details within a chart, including microscopic images and doctors' handwriting.

How it works
The ChartCapture service provides doctors' offices with a self-contained desktop machine that staffers feed with hard-copy charts, scanning as many as 65 pages per minute. The system drops the scanned files into a PDF Enhancer hot folder for automatic file reduction and color optimization to ensure accurate representation of the original. The files are output to PDF, often reduced by as much as 90% of the original file.
