Presstek 34DI at University of Victoria Print Services

Press release from the issuing company

“With the Presstek 34DI press in our shop, we have been able to keep a great deal more printing work on campus,” says Peter Klit, Manager of Printing Services for the University of Victoria.  “Our customers get their work faster, and there is a financial benefit to the University.”

Print Services had a decision to make: The shop needed to increase colour capacity and faced a choice between adding a newer and more capable colour printer or adding a Presstek DI digital offset press.  “We looked at what was being outsourced,” explains Klit, “and the Presstek DI press was the best match to bring that work back in house.”

“Since adding the DI press,” says Klit, “we have seen a significant increase in the number of longer runs we are producing. Our ability to guarantee a fast turnaround is an important aspect of our success with the press, and our campus customers love the quality.” Presstek DI presses are designed to produce high-quality colour printing in runs up to 20,000 profitably—an area too low for conventional offset and too high for digital-toner devices.

Klit looks forward to introducing more versioned, customized and personalized printing to the campus, using the DI press to produce shells for overprint by colour or black & white toner-based devices. “We think this will add to the effectiveness of the pieces many of our customers produce,” he says, “and it is a very affordable process for making their pieces more relevant.”
