Pewaukee, Wisconsin -- The Institute for Graphics and Imaging (IGI)—an education and training organization funded by and dedicated to the printing and graphic arts industry—and BRIDG’S have announced a training course for printers facing operational issues in this tough economic climate.  The three-day course—to be held April 20, 21 and 22, at the IGI facility in suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin—is specifically designed for owners and managers of commercial printers, inplant printers, and pressroom managers or quality control executives of larger shops.  It also is excellent training for newcomers to the printing industry who need a basic technical foundation on which to build.  The course will be conducted by Bruce Lanzarotti, a founder and co-chair of the BRIDG’S Committee and author of the BRIDG’S Quality Compliance Program.  Students also will hear presentations from representatives of ColorMetrix, GRIPdigital, LaCrosse Litho, and X-Rite.
 
Among the topics to be covered in the course are the sources of pressroom variations, how and why to measure pressroom attributes, benchmarking and press fingerprinting, and print characterization. Course details may be found at http://www.igi.org/events_calendar/default.asp.
 
Announcing the new training course, IGI Executive Director Ron Dahl commented: “In a difficult economic environment, maintaining quality is a key to retaining business.  While the largest printers have embraced color science as a means of ensuring consistency in the pressroom, many smaller printers have regarded the use of color standards as too involved and complex.  The IGI Printer Survival Course is a basic course in color and pressroom fundamentals taught by an experienced pressroom expert.”
