Austrian-based paper manufacturer Lenzing Papier has denied press rumours that it has been forced to push back an expansion of its de-inking plant at its Austrian mill.

Established more than 100 years ago, Lenzing Papier is one of the leading manufacturers of recycled paper, poster and envelope paper.

General Manager Ernst Brunbauer said, “We unveiled plans to expand our de-inking plant last year and are currently just in the selection process stage for the rebuild. We are not in a hurry to rush things and expect to make an evaluated decision on which supplier to use for the rebuild in the next few months.”

Despite the current economic conditions, Brunbauer said the project is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2010, and he denied reports that the project had been delayed due to current market conditions.

The expansion of the de-inking plant will see capacity at Lenzing’s Austrian mill increase from 280 tonnes per day to 350 tonnes per day.

Lenzing has long been a forerunner in new technology and developments in paper, the environment and sustainability, and the de-inking plant project is further testament to its on-going improvements at the mill.

In September last year Lenzing announced the launch of Impact – billed as the one of the first CO2 neutral recycled papers to be produced by a European paper manufacturer. Impact is a carbon neutral paper produced from 100% recycled fibre.
