(WOOD DALE, IL) Roman Majewski immigrated to the United States as a teenager from Poland.  Following his dream, he opened his own print shop, Pol Press in 1991, working part-time and by himself from a small store front shop on Chicago's northwest side.

The company has grown considerably since its humble beginnings and is now a medium size, full service commercial printer with 18 employees and a modern, 15,000 square foot facility in the very same neighborhood.  Specializing in small to medium run, saddle-stitched booklets, Pol Pres is not a trade printer per se, although they produce a lot of high-quality, full color work for other printers and smaller chain operations.  Pol Press services a large number of their own direct customers as well.

Pol Press maintains impressive array of press and bindery equipment, including: Two half-size sheetfed presses (a four color perfector and a five color press), two cutters and a full pre-press operation.  In the bindery, a Standard Horizon two-tower Speed Vac 100 has been in continuous operation for about five years. Their newest machine, a Standard Horizon Stitchliner 5500 saddle stitching system was installed recently following Majewski's consultation and live demonstration of the equipment by Jeff Peterson, Sales Representative and Larry Fuller, President, Fuller Grafix. Both Standard Horizon machines were purchased, installed and serviced by Fuller Grafix.

"The primary advantages of our newest Stitchliner are that it gives us in-line scoring and 3-knife trimming plus greater speed and productivity. The 5500 allows us to do up to 120 pages per book. This is an increase from 80 pages from the older Speed Vac and produces a better quality finished product" said Majewski.

"The advantage of the Stitchliner system is that it can collate, score, fold, saddle stitch and 3-knife trim in a single pass", stated Majewski.  "Make-ready is also extremely fast and ideal for short, medium and long production runs". Additionally, the Stitchliner, like most of the Horizon equipment is JDF compliant, accepting CIP4 technology for future automated binderies.

"With an interactive, icon based touch screen and end-to-end automation, the Stitchliner allows our operators to achieve fast and easy job set-ups and changeovers. It has already had a substantial impact on our productivity and bottom line," Majewski added.

"Our relationship with Fuller Grafix goes back to 2003 when we purchased a Screen 4100 CTP, added Majewski.  "We have been very comfortable working with them ever since.  They are very responsive when it comes to follow up, service and parts and we enjoy a very friendly and professional relationship".
