MGI Receives DIMA Award

Press release from the issuing company

Melbourne, Fla. – MGI Digital Graphic Technology, the multi-substrate (paper and plastic) digital press and finishing solutions manufacturer, has received the prestigious DIMA Innovative Digital Product award for the Meteor DP20 4-in-1 digital press  (print, laminate, cut and crease in just one pass). The Meteor DP20 is the central component of MGI's My PhotoBook Shop/MyBookinShop total digital photo solution.

Of the hundreds of digital products shown at PMA 09, held March 3-5 in Las Vegas, NV, only 17 were selected by a panel of digital imaging editors to receive the prestigious DIMA Innovative Digital Product Award, which recognizes products or services utilizing new technologies and/or applications that make the product either distinct or the first of its kind. The annual award is sponsored by the Digital Imaging Marketing Association (DIMA), a PMA member association.

MGI's Meteor DP20 is the industry's first all-inclusive digital solution that can print, laminate, crease & cut in just one pass. This compact 4-color digital press uses dry toner (no water, no chemicals, no solutions to drain) and prints and laminates photos in auto-duplex mode (both sides). It accommodates virtually any off-the-shelf papers up to 12 x 18" (A3+). The Meteor DP20 produces prints in resolutions up to 1800dpi with an output of up to 10 photo books per hour (print to print), and in-line finishing options including duplex lamination and horizontal and vertical cutting and creasing. All functions are fully streamlined, automated and in one single pass, requiring just one part-time operator.

The Meteor DP20 is a versatile "business in a box" for photo professionals, giving them the option to offer additional premium printing applications such as flyers, brochures, business cards, postcards, personalized book covers with the Meteor DP20's book cover mode (12 x 35"/304 x 889mm) and a host of direct mail services utilizing the Meteor DP20's full variable data capabilities, a feature that no minilab or other digital photo solution can match.

The DIMA Innovative Digital Product Award is the third industry award for MGI in less than six months, recognizing technological innovation in three different industries (commercial printing & graphics, package printing, photofinishing) for three separate digital solutions.

At GRAPH EXPO 2008, the most comprehensive graphic communications exhibition in the Americas, MGI's Meteor DP60 Pro 4-color digital press for paper and plastics was named as a Must See 'em in the Presses – Production Color Digital category. Products selected as Must See 'ems were chosen from more than 5,000 individual products shown at GRAPH EXPO 2008 by nearly 600 exhibitors. A panel of 16 leading industry consultants and trade magazine editors selected the winners, which represent technologies that will impact virtually all printers.

The JETvarnish digital inkjet spot UV coater received the prestigious Oscar de l'Emballage (World Packaging Award) in November 2008, in recognition of a technological breakthrough with a tremendous potential impact on the packaging sector, reaffirming MGI's proven ability to deliver innovative digital printing and finishing solutions for paper and plastics in a variety of market segments year after year.
