KBA Rapida 105 at Imprimex in Montevideo

The first KBA sheetfed offset press in Uruguay, a four-colour Rapida 105 with coater tower and extended delivery, went into production at Imprimex in Montevideo at the beginning of the year. 

The press has been configured with board-handling accessories, non-stop pile changing facilities at the feeder and delivery, dedicated sheet travel monitoring, semi-automatic plate changing, inking unit temperature control and a whole host of further automation components. It is thus ideally prepared to handle both packaging and commercial work.
 
Imprimex processes an average of 220 tonnes of board and 160 tonnes of paper per month in three-shift operation. Alongside the two main business fields of packaging and self-adhesive labels, the company's portfolio includes also a variety of commercial products both for the home market and for customers throughout South America, for example in Argentina, Brazil and Chile. For Horacio Rey Lottermoser, managing director of Imprimex, it was especially important to choose a press requiring only minimal conversion to be able to print on the most diverse substrates. The Rapida 105 has no problem whatsoever satisfying that demand, boasting a substrate range from 60 gsm paper to 1.2 mm board.
 
Imprimex is certified to ISO 9001 and is one of the leading print companies in Uruguay. It was founded as a family business in 1978 and is wholly owned by the Rey Lottermoser family. The 195 employees make use of 6,500 m² of production floor space to run up an annual turnover of $10 million. The decision in favour of the Rapida 105 was already taken at the KBA pre-drupa event in Radebeul. Subsequent visits to drupa and to European users further convinced Horacio Rey Lottermoser of the performance capabilities of the medium-format press. The press was installed in Montevideo at the end of the year and has since got off to a roaring start. The new technology is now intended to strengthen the company's leading status in Uruguay, while at the same time promoting expansion into further export markets.
