Journal-News Chooses Fusion Systems

Press release from the issuing company

Fusion Systems International announced that the Journal-News of Hillsboro, IL, has chosen its Fusion WorkflowESP as a front-end for their existing Screen CTP imager. The workflow enables direct printing of layout application and PDF files for post-RIP page pairing and imposition, digital correction for fan out and plate cocking, and press-accurate halftone dot soft and hard copy proofing.

All of these features have dramatically accelerated production and have eliminated errors from reaching the press and printed work. The Fusion workflow integrates seamlessly into Windows or OS X production environments and the ROOM workflow component is a Harlequin RIP Plug-in.

In-house and externally generated PDF documents, as well as XPress and InDesign layout files, are RIP'd directly into DigiPage format production files, as single pages, for post-RIP proofing and page pairing. DigiPage is a ROOM workflow plug-in that functions as an output device within the Screen Harlequin RIP.

Processed pages are accurately numbered and automatically routed to the correct publication directory for post-RIP page pairing or imposition. Precision folio page numbers and automated file routing is achieved using DigiPage's uniquely intuitive template-based naming, true page numbering and post-process scripting features.

The fully RIP'd and screened paired or imposed DigiPage files are then output as separations through the Harlequin RIP Screen PT-R interface. Prior to plating the high resolution imposed flats can be remotely soft-proofed from a client workstation as a final quality control step and then released to the platesetter.

"When we went to CTP, we didn't understand the savings in time and plates, that a good workflow system could make possible. The savings and ease of use, with our new Fusion workflow were immediate and impressive, and the software was very affordable," John M. Galer, Publisher of The Journal-News in Hillsboro, Illinois stated.

The DigiPage ROOM workflow plug-in also provides the ability to automatically generate press accurate halftone dot proofing files directly from the high resolution separations that are used for plating. These proofing files show exactly how the job will look when printed. The proofing files can be output as raster PDFs or low resolution TIFF or JPEG files suitable for dispaly ad approvals and e-tear sheet distribution.

"Fusion Systems offers high productivity by integrating workflow software that we've developed over the last fifteen-plus years with other industry-leading software," comments Logan Herbert, Business Development Manager. "This allows Fusion Systems to provide higher value and functionality in solutions that are modular and remarkably cost-effective."
