Pijper Media invests in first web press with Goss M-600 press

Press release from the issuing company

(January 12, 2009) Dutch commercial sheetfed printer Pijper Media has made its first investment in web offset technology by installing a 16-page Goss M-600 web press. The printer and publisher, located in Groningen in Northern Holland, is entering the web market in order to increase its flexibility and product offerings to its client base as well as to increase its productivity.

Bas and Anton Pijper, owners of Pijper Media, say The Netherlands has a high print capacity and significant competition for work, so the company has been looking at solutions that will differentiate it. "The move to web technology provides us with the ability to offer more to our existing customers as well as attract new clients in the retail and publishing industries, where high quality is a critical factor, and brand identity is key," Anton Pijper explains. "The M-600 web offset press gives us a real advantage as the price gap between sheet and web gets closer and it provides an opportunity to offer a wider range of products."

The four unit Goss M-600 press at Pijper Media features Goss Autoplate automated plate changing technology for faster plate changes between jobs, one JF-55 folder with PFF module, a Goss splicer and a Goss Ecocool dryer. It will be used to print a range of magazines and brochures including the company's four Extreme Sports and cycling titles.

Anton Pijper remarks, "This is a massive leap for us as a company but one that we are now ready to take - it's a very exciting time. The added flexibility and increased productivity, not to mention the level of quality we will be able to produce, offers us the chance to enter new markets that were previously out of our reach."

Founded over 38 years ago, Pijper Media is a small family company employing around 30 people. Printing approximately 20 magazine titles, the company works for a number of publishers including Sanoma Uitgevers, Wieler Revue, Extreme sports magazines, NDC Media, New Publishers and NTI. It offers a full service to its clients from pre-press, printing and finishing to distribution.
