Mohawk Fine Papers Named Winner of the 2009 Net Impact Challenge

Press release from the issuing company

Cohoes, NY – Mohawk Fine Papers Inc. has been named the 2009 Net Impact Challenge winner.  The annual Net Impact Challenge focuses solely on grassroots efforts initiated by employee and/or student-driven projects that create tangible positive social or environmental impacts.

Mohawk’s submission for the “Challenge” was its employer-driven environmental program that is focused on waste reduction, resource conservation, sustainable forestry, fiber recycling and the use of renewable energy.  These efforts are made transparent through participation in government and non-government sponsored programs.  In an industry benchmarking study, Mohawk was listed as the lowest emitter of greenhouse gases in North America within its manufacturing category.

“This award is significant in that it is not specifically an environmental group recognizing our work but a social change organization,” said Melissa Stevens, National Businesses Development Manager, Mohawk Fine Papers.

An esteemed panel of judges reviewed several high-caliber projects for this year’s challenge.  Judges were: Adam Werbach, Global CEO, Saatchi & Saatchi S (previously president of the Sierra Club); David Yarnold, Executive Director, The Environmental Defense Fund; Nick Aster, Founder, TriplePundit.com; Lisa Neuberger, Senior Manager of Strategy, Accenture; and Brie Johnson, Marketing Communications Manager, Strauss Family Creamery.

2009 Net Impact winners have been invited to and will be recognized at the 2009 Net Impact Conference in November of this year.
