(December 10, 2008) When it comes to protecting against fake documents, there’s no better tool for the job than digital printing, Xerox expert Dr. Peter Crean told an audience in Baltimore at the Information Management Institute’s 5th Annual Security Printing Conference.

Crean, senior fellow, Xerox Innovation Group, led a session discussing the production of protected documents on color and monochrome devices that print secure features without special inks and materials. Special imaging software allows unmodified Xerox printers to produce documents with programmable gloss, infrared and ultra violet features and MicroText™. Businesses can choose to add one or more of these features to any document to create multiple layers of security.
“Digital printing offers a level of protection not found in traditional security printing by making it possible to generate features where each document can be unique. This makes it extremely difficult and costly for counterfeiters to fake documents on a large scale,” said Crean.
 
During the three-day conference, industry leaders discussed tactics and technologies available to create more secure applications such as business documents, IDs, currency, event tickets, product packaging and travel documents. The conference provided a critical assessment of forensic analysis requirements, enhanced ink and media systems, document traceability technologies, software solutions and other potential avenues to enhance product and document security.
