Torraspapel's Uranga Mill obtains EMAS European Environmental Certification

Press release from the issuing company

Torraspapel, part of the Lecta Group, now boasts 6 production sites with EMAS environmental accreditation.  Over the course of the previous year, the Group's coated and uncoated paper mills, its pulp mill and self-adhesive manufacturing site all successfully completed the strict environmental review required by the EMAS regulation.  With this certification of the Uranga mill, Torraspapel's base papers, used in the manufacture of carbonless paper, now meet the same requirements.

The Environmental Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) of the EU is a voluntary system that promotes continuous improvement in the environmental performance of public and private organizations through the implementation of an environmental management system, the systematic, periodic and objective  evaluation of this system, the communication of environmental information with the goal of establishing an open dialogue with the public and stakeholders, and the training and active involvement of employees in improving environmental performance.  The system is based on the ISO 14001 environmental standard, and requires, in addition, the elaboration of an environmental statement verified by an external auditor and made available to the public.
