Two high-tech KBA Rapida 106 press lines for Comprinta, Zurich

Press release from the issuing company

On 1 January 2010 a new sheetfed commercial printing plant will go live in Zurich-Schwerzenbach at Comprinta, the product of an alliance among three Swiss enterprises: Neidhart + Schön Group, Druckerei Feldegg and Bühler Druck.

While Feldegg and Bühler will both vacate their present premises and relocate to Schwerzenbach, Neidhart + Schön's sales, customer services, pre-press, multimedia solutions, digital print and central services departments will remain in Zurich West. All three companies will retain their independent.

The focal point of Comprinta's new plant will be the press room with cutting-edge technology to support cost-effective, green production. This includes two Rapida 106 B1 (41in) press lines: an eight-colour coater/perfector and a six-colour hybrid press with aqueous and UV coaters plus perfecting after the second unit. Both presses support a broad choice of coating options. They also incorporate DriveTronic SPC dedicated plate-cylinder drives for simultaneous plate changing, DriveTronic SIS no-sidelay no-sidelay infeed, blanket and impression cylinder washing systems, automatic plate changing, pumping and cleaning in the coaters and ErgoTronic ACR (video magnifier).

Specifications also include a comprehensive closed-loop quality assurance package based on QualiTronic Professional, with ColorControl inline colorimetry and sheet inspection on both sides of the sheet. Inline measurement and control delivers substantial savings in waste and thus contributes in no small way to sustainable print production. Both presses will be linked to DensiTronic Professional spectral control software. The DensiTronic PDF sheet scanner can also compare a test sheet or proof with pre-press data and flag deviations in both copy (eg in foreign languages) and images. Virtually all the tasks normally carried out by a proof reader can thus be automated. An AirTronic delivery, an alcohol-free capability with the option of converting to waterless at a later date, and automatic ink pumping from 200kg drums are also part of the package.

LogoTronic Professional's open systems architecture allows both presses to be linked to the alliance partners' management information systems. It functions as a master interface to all production processes from administration and pre-press to press, finishing, the mailroom and customers. There are plans to maintain the plant's technological and ecological edge in the long term, and to this end Comprinta has entered a technological alliance with KBA with a view to exchanging information on process-related technologies and automation, finishing and sustainable production.

The alliance partners have invested between 12 and 15 million Swiss francs (€8-10m or $11-14m) in Comprinta's new plant, which will start off with 30 to 40 production staff. These will be joined by 20 Feldegg employees plus staff from Bühler Druck.
