Xeikon rolls out the Xeikon 8000 for the PRINT 09 Conference

Press release from the issuing company

Itasca, IL - Xeikon, a division of Punch Graphix, legendary for pioneering the first digital color presses, today announced that the company will be exhibiting at the upcoming PRINT 09 event, one of the largest and most comprehensive global graphic communications exhibitions, taking place in Chicago, September 11-16, 2009.

At the event Xeikon will be demonstrating the Xeikon 8000, the company's flagship digital color press at booth #2529, as well as featuring a dedicated label and packaging area. This label and packaging space will be complete with high impact samples produced on its award winning Xeikon 3300 digital color press.

The Xeikon 8000's high-precision LED-based imaging head features true 1200 dpi resolution and 1200 x 3600 dpi addressability with variable dot density, generating extraordinary image quality with sharp and crisp details, high definition, and smooth tone transitions. The new imaging technology makes use of the powerful Pericles screening library, allowing screen rulings up to 240 lpi, further optimizing overall image quality. Two in-line densitometers and high-performance process algorithms provide uniform and accurate colors and perfect color registration, guaranteeing color consistency from job to job and from press to press. Specially developed Xeikon Productivity Adapted (PA) toner supports cost-effective impeccable print quality at high speeds. Web-fed, it prints full color multi-page documents at a top speed of 244 letter-size pages per minute and its exceptional uptime enables duty cycles of up to 9.0 million letter-size pages per month.

"Xeikon is thrilled to participate at the upcoming PRINT 09 conference, and we truly see the value of having a significant presence at this event," said Bram Bourgeois, President and CEO of Punch Graphix Americas, Inc. "We are looking forward to demonstrating the industry-leading capabilities of the Xeikon 8000, as well as discussing our recent corporate partnership with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund."

When discussing the corporate partnership with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund for the upcoming 2009 Holiday Greetings program, the Xeikon booth will be equipped with real-time examples of the greeting cards that will be printed live on the Xeikon 8000. For this purpose, the Xeikon 8000 will be running inline with a full-fledged finishing unit capable of UV-coating, lamination, super-glossing, die-cutting, stacking and batching capabilities. "This partnership between Xeikon and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute / The Jimmy Fund has truly brought joy across our organization," said Michael V. Ring, VP of Sales & CMO of Xeikon's North American operations. "We're hoping that attendees of PRINT 09 will stop by the Xeikon booth to learn more about this amazing organization that dedicates countless hours supporting the fight against cancer in children and adults. We'll have examples of the holiday cards printed at the booth, information on where to purchase items this season, and more."

At the conference, attendees will also be able to witness the versatility and flexibility of Xeikon digital color solutions. The production configuration generating the greeting cards will also be utilized to produce Print-On-Demand applications, such as pocket folders. Furthermore, the Xeikon 8000 will produce some unique TransPromo applications at the conference. The TransPromo applications will be treated with the Xeikon Web Finishing Module, a unit that applies an invisible silicone oil/wax/water emulsion to increase scratch/scuff resistance of the printed pieces, minimize substrate curling and eliminate static for hassle-free post print processing.

In regard to the TransPromo applications, Xeikon will demonstrate its IDPS controller for processing AFP/IPDS input data streams. The Xeikon IPDS Controller enables its digital color presses to be fully integrated in a transactional/TransPromo workflow. The controller operates alongside the Xeikon X-800 Digital Front End, creating a strong value-proposition for printers – the capability to print transactional/TransPromo applications as well as all the other commercial printing applications on the same press.

Xeikon's booth will incorporate a workflow partner area housing GMC Software Technology as well as Kodak's INSITE Web to Print Solutions and Prinergy Powerpack Workflow System. GMC Software Technology will demonstrate the ease of integration between its workflow solutions and the Xeikon digital color presses via the TransPromo applications that would be produced at the booth. The alliance between Kodak and Xeikon, announced earlier this year, is aimed towards helping label and packaging converters. It enables them to extend their web-based businesses with branded online ordering of tags, labels, and other print products. It also simplifies and streamlines production, from order origination on the web via Kodak Web to Print Solutions through to final output on the Xeikon 3300 digital color label press.
