Cardline Versa Approves Drop On Demand Payment Card Personalization

Press release from the issuing company

Emmingen -- Atlantic Zeiser, a leading innovator and technology supplier for digital personalization systems, announced today that a major international financial payment network has approved its revolutionary UV-curable drop on demand (DOD) inkjet printing for payment card personalization. DOD printing offers much higher processing speeds at a substantially lower cost compared to conventional embossing and thermal printing, this production technique helps financial card personalizers to significantly decrease card personalization costs.

“Atlantic Zeiser has been a leader in developing UV-curable high resolution drop on demand inkjet technologies,” said Friedbert Bayer, Market and Product Manager Card Systems of Atlantic Zeiser.  “This significant development allows Atlantic Zeiser to bring this revolutionary technology to the entire base of network branded payment card issuers and producers.”

Using Atlantic Zeiser's innovative CARDLINE VERSA system, equipped with Atlantic Zeiser OMEGA drop on demand printing system, card manufacturers can image personalized information to cards, including the primary account number, cardholder's name, expiration date,  CVV2 and additional barcodes to a card. With this DOD printing technique, characters, numbers and letters are applied and bonded to the card body by UV curing, producing a secure card that is resistant to alteration as well as wear and tear without the need for a protective topcoat. It offers thermal-like print quality but with superior adhesion.

“Atlantic Zeiser's CARDLINE VERSA, in combination with OMEGA drop on demand printing technology, is perfectly suited for the high quality personalization of network branded payment cards, prepaid cards, gift cards and loyalty cards,” added Bayer.  “This endorsement opens a wide range of brand new opportunities for Atlantic Zeiser and its customers, and we expect this move to catch the attention of other types of card issuers as well, including mobile operators and SIM card personalizers.”

CARDLINE VERSA/OMEGA drop on demand personalization is 10 to 30 times faster than traditional personalization technologies such as embossing, indenting, laser engraving and thermal printing. It is available with a resolution of up to 720 dpi, a print width of up to 72mm (2.83 inches) and features a speed of up to 30,000 cards per hour. Atlantic Zeiser's proprietary inks have superior adhesion and do not require top coating, saving both time and money in the manufacturing process. The market-proven Atlantic Zeiser CARDLINE VERSA system is now available with a Flipping Module, allowing single-pass personalization of the front and backside of the card. Ensuring ISO quality encoding, the system also includes the controlled Atlantic Zeiser magstripe encoding module, which is recognized as the favored signal processor by the industry.

The first system, a one-pass complete solution dedicated to the production of network-branded financial cards, will be shipped to a U.S. customer within a few weeks.
