NAQP releases latest study on bindery & finishing pricing practices

Press release from the issuing company

DES PLAINES, IL - Insights into the bindery and finishing prices charged by quick and small commercial printing companies across the U. S. are now available in a comprehensive study just released by the National Association of Quick Printers (NAQP) of Des Plaines, IL, part of the NAPL Network.

The 2nd Edition of the Bindery & Finishing Study reflects responses from 300 participating companies surveyed early in the summer of 2009 and provides thousands of sample prices for more than 60 separate bindery and finishing operations. The 70+ page study distinguishes the prices of services performed on digital copiers versus those services performed on more traditional offset equipment. For services produced on digital color and BW devices, average and median prices are provided for operations such as numbering, folding, drilling, booklet making and more.

"This study provides companies with an excellent tool developing a pricing strategy that will improve the profitability of their postpress services," said Steve Johnson, NAQP president and chief executive officer, as he announced its release. "While we would never suggest changing prices simply to match current numbers reported in the new study, it can be helpful for companies to refer to this information as part of a thorough review of their pricing formulas and strategies."

Johnson noted that the first edition of the study was published in 2001. The current edition provides a comparative analysis, for similar projects, of current prices versus the prices previously published. "In many printing firms, charges and fees for binding and finishing have not been revised or updated in many years, so these comparisons can be valuable reading," Johnson continued.

For most services, comparative prices are provided for quantities covering a range of 500 to 5,000 pieces. Information is published for total prices (where available), as well as price per thousand and price per unit wherever appropriate. Additional quantity breaks are interpolated to provide readers with an optimal amount of information for their pricing strategies.

The study may be purchased by calling 800.642.6275, Ext. 4, or by visiting the NAPL online store at www.napl.org/store and entering Product Code 1019.  The price is $155 for NAPL Network members and $225 for non-members.
