Frecklebox Installs HP Indigo 7000

Press release from the issuing company

PALO ALTO, Calif., November 6, 2008 – HP today announced that Frecklebox has expanded its ability to produce affordable, personalized books, posters and custom-made gifts for children with the addition of an HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press. The new press complements the company's existing portfolio of HP Indigo technology and allows Frecklebox to create high-quality output with double the productivity to address the increased demand expected during the upcoming holiday season.

Launched by "Freckleheads" Scott Feldman and Mark Sarpa in April, Frecklebox is a Web-based company (www.frecklebox.com) that takes product customization to a new level with image personalization, a process that uses almost any illustration to create a clip font, such as a child's name written in clouds, flowers, stars, pigeons and more. The company is a subsidiary to Progressive Solutions, a printing and distribution business established by Feldman and Sarpa in 1990, and is based on the founders' inspiration to educate and entertain their kids while exploring the possibilities of Web-based digital printing.

"With the HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press, Frecklebox is able to exceed customer expectations for quick turnaround time and excellent quality on a range of personalized items," said Jan Riecher, vice president and general manager, Americas Graphics Solutions Business, HP. "Frecklebox is a prime example of how customers can use digital printing technologies to open the door to new markets and achieve profitable growth, which is evident in the company's transformation from strictly business-to-business to also include a business-to-consumer side."

Since the launch of its beta Web site during the 2007 holiday season, Frecklebox has continued to see exponential growth rates and is expecting between 4,000 and 5,000 orders during the 2008 holiday season. With the HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press, the company will have the scalability needed to boost productivity and fulfill each order in time for the holidays. The company currently offers an array of books, coloring books, journals, posters, placemats and growth charts, printed on HP Indigo technology with the help of variable-data imaging software, that feature image personalization with the child's name.

"We converted our portfolio from competitive offerings to HP Indigo as a result of the quality, reliability and service of the technology as well as HP's clear commitment to the marketplace and dedication to providing the best digital press technology available," saidFeldman, owner, Frecklebox. "HP Indigo technology provides a competitive advantage and allows us to offer our customers vibrant images like no other product you can buy on the Web. With the addition of the HP Indigo 7000, we can produce a quality product and successfully handle the busy holiday season where volume is expected to triple."

Launched at drupa 2008, the HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press delivers fast production speeds of 120 high-quality four-color A4-size pages per minute and is optimized to print large numbers of static jobs with run lengths ranging from one copy into the thousands, as well as variable-data work requiring the "every page is different" capabilities of digital. The HP Indigo 7000 also offers the widest digital color gamut available with 4-, 6- or 7-color Pantone emulation including Pantone Goe and off-press mixing of true spot colors.
