Mohawk Announces Design Competition Winners for Mohawk Show 9

Press release from the issuing company

Cohoes, NY (July 27, 2008)  – Mohawk Fine Papers Inc. announces the winners of its ninth annual Mohawk Show. Five Best of Show winners were selected (see attached photographs and credits).  The designers of the Best of Show winners each receive $5,000 cash and finalists each receive $500 cash.

Mohawk Show 9 received entries from in-house and independent design firms across the globe.  From these entries, five Best of Show winners were selected.  The design firms for the five winning pieces are: Valentine Group New York, NY for Interface Folio No.1 for Best of Show in this year's special category of Small Design Firm; Iconologic, Atlanta, GA for HERE No.3 The Cooper Carry Magazine; Hybrid-Design, San Francisco, CA for Impact 2008 High School Campaign; design:mw, New York, NY for The Drawing Papers 2007-2008; and Ziggurat Brand Consultants, London, UK for Plain English.  In addition to the five Best of Show winners, 20 finalists were also named (see the complete list of finalists attached).

For two days, this year's jury reviewed more than 1,200 entries.  The esteemed panel of judges for Show 9 were designers: Sam Shelton (show chair), Kinetik, Washington, DC; Bart Crosby, Crosby Associates, Chicago, IL; Debbie Millman, Sterling Brands, New York, NY; and Mick Hodgson, Ph.D, Santa Monica, CA.

Of the collection of entries submitted, juror Debbie Millman said, "Anyone that thinks that print is dead needs to look at this show.  Not only is it not dead, it's not even waning… it's alive and better than ever.  This is an exceptional collection of pieces.  I haven't seen this quality of work in any show I've judged before."

Laura Shore, Mohawk's Senior Vice President of Communications, attributes each year's impressive number of entries and continued quality of work to the show's reputation for recruiting top industry professionals to juror the competition and for acknowledging outstanding work each year.  "We are heading into our tenth year of the Mohawk Show.  Each year of the show has seen growth in quantity and quality and each year we continue to be awed by the level of design we are seeing produced on Mohawk papers.  Debbie Millman commented that the one common denominator for her was the fact that not only did she wish she had designed all of the pieces, she wished they were part of her design collection.  That says a lot about the level of work we are seeing in the show."

Show judge Bart Crosby notes, "Mohawk has what every other company wants, and it's this incredibly respected brand.  Mohawk knows its customer.  By concentrating on that, this incredible brand has evolved as something that people aspire to use, not just have to use, but aspire to use."
