KBA among ten most innovative machinery manufacturers in the USA

Press release from the issuing company

(May 27, 2008) According to The Patent Board's Heavy Industrial Equipment Patent Scorecard published in The Wall Street Journal on 20 May, Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA) ranks among the top ten innovators in the USA, along with such global heavyweights as Caterpillar, Deere and Schindler. Of the 109 companies represented, KBA was ranked ninth.

Founded in 1968 as a research institution, The Patent Board utilises proprietary data, tools and analytics to leverage patent-based IP as an asset class. It regularly issues rankings for global players in 17 industry sectors, with each company's portfolio measured on its technical strength, quantity, science and research strength, and the speed at which patents become assets.

In 2007 the German Patent and Trademark Office published 203 patent applications from KBA relating to innovative, cutting-edge technology. KBA thus ranks 22nd in Germany's overall patent application statistics, not far behind the country's giant car manufacturers such as Audi in 13th place with 419 applications. This innovative prowess was apparent in KBA's high figures for previous years (193 in 2004, 200 in 2005, 174 in 2006), which were exceeded yet again by this record score.
