Stora Enso continues commitment, leadership roles in Chicago Climate Exchange

Press release from the issuing company

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis., April 19, 2007 – As part of its continued commitment to sustainable practices, Stora Enso today announced its participation in Phase II of the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). A founding member of the CCX, Stora Enso North America Corp. pledges that by 2010 it will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 6% below the baseline year of 2000. The CCX is North America’s only – and the world’s first – GHG emission registry, reduction and trading system for all six GHGs. Members make a voluntary but legally binding commitment to reduce GHG emissions. At the end of Phase I (December 2006), members had reduced direct emissions by the targeted 4% below the baseline period of 1998-2001. Stora Enso comfortably met its reduction commitments for each year of the Phase I program. Stora Enso is actively represented in the governance of the CCX. Annabeth Reitter, vice president of environment for Stora Enso North America Corp., chairs the Environmental Compliance Committee and is a member of the Offsets Committee. Tom Scharff, Stora Enso director of power and energy in North America, chairs the Trading and Marketing Operations Committee. “Stora Enso is pleased to reaffirm its commitment to help mitigate the impacts of climate change,” said Reitter. “By taking responsibility to conduct business in a responsible, sustainable manner, we can be part of the solution and contribute to the well-being of generations to come.” For more information about the Chicago Climate Exchange, visit www.chicagoclimateexchange.com.
