Smith Print, Inc. Installs New Komori Lithrone SX29

Press release from the issuing company

Rolling Meadows, IL, August 20, 2008 – Komori America Corporation, a premier manufacturer of sheetfed and web offset printing presses, today announced it has installed a new, fully automated five-color, Lithrone SX29 (LSX 529) sheetfed offset press at Smith Print, Inc.'s growing  28,000 square-foot facility in Norwell, Massachusetts.  Smith Print is a family-owned company founded in 1938. A first-time Komori customer, the company primarily serves healthcare and pharmaceutical companies, technology industries, financial investment agencies, and numerous colleges and universities. Smith Print chose the LSX 529 to provide its customers the opportunity to do shorter runs while improving print quality. The advanced automation of the LSX 529 makes it possible to easily answer market demand for faster turnaround with its ability to deliver exceptionally make-ready times and color brilliance. The addition of a Harrison Bruno coating unit to the press configuration adds further efficient functionality and coating options for customers.

"We are very excited about the benefits this press brings to our customers and our company," said David Cohen, chief operating officer of Smith Print, Inc. "Many of our customers prefer the sophisticated look and consistency of offset printing for their short run work. The LSX 529 allows us to deliver these benefits in an efficient way that is better for the environment, our ethically-minded customers, and our quality-conscious employees. We are now able to offer these services in a safer, greener, and more efficient environment-and that's what our trusted customers care about."

A corporate responsibility to global environmental concerns led Smith Print to evaluate operating procedures with increased scrutiny. While the company also chose the LSX 529 for its increased page run capabilities on a 24x29 press sheet and superior inking and distribution enhancements, it also reports that the LSX 529 makes it possible to eliminate many harmful solvents. The press utilizes an auto blanket washing system and impression cylinder cleaning, eliminating liquid spray waste and reducing cloth consumption. The LSX 529 is also well-suited to longer run work and boasts a top rated speed of 16,200 impressions per hour.

"We are very excited to welcome Smith Print into the Komori family," said Ken Sabol, vice president of sales for Komori's Eastern Region. "It is a company that is truly customer-centric, embracing new technologies and implementing changes that improve processes for the benefit of its customers. The Lithrone SX29 is a perfect fit for a company like Smith Print because it delivers the exceptional quality and flexibility that ensure customer satisfaction."
