MAN Roland at NEXPO 2007

Press release from the issuing company

April 16, 2007 -- Orlando, Florida — The world market leader in newspaper press systems will be providing newspaper publishers and production executives with new ways to succeed in a NEXPO exhibit themed “Applied Innovations.” From April 21-24, MAN Roland will showcase how its advanced technology can be applied to help newspapers strengthen their production prowess and enhance their economic growth. “Our focus this year is on how MAN Roland transforms our advancements into customized solutions newspapers can use to make their pressrooms more productive and their businesses more profitable,” says Ron Sams, Vice President of Newspaper Sales. “Our Applied Innovations theme also reflects on how we bring fresh thinking and new opportunities to the vital area of service and support — all in an effort to provide our customers with total solutions that are tailored to their business needs.” A key part of that innovative approach is an educational initiative called “Creative Newspapers.” The effort develops and delivers creative ways newspapers can enhance their products to increase their profits, lower their costs and make themselves more attractive to readers and advertisers. Right-Sized Formats A Berliner-sized newspaper called MAN Compact will spotlight the trend toward right-sizing newspapers by turning to more compact formats. Published exclusively for the show, MAN Compact will deliver news on how newspapers throughout the world are applying MAN Roland innovations to revitalize their operations. Developed in Germany, Berliner is designed to combine the best benefits of broadsheet and tabloid sizes. It sectionalizes content so readers can access their favorites quickly, while providing an easy-to-handle 12” by 18” size. The MAN Compact was the hit of the show at the last two Ifra/Expos. While it has been distributed throughout North America in the past, this is the first time the paper will be published in the U.S. It will be printed in Lafayette, Indiana, where Gannett’s Journal & Courier became the first North American newspaper to utilize the Berliner format, produced on an MAN Roland GEOMAN press. Heatset/Coldset For newspaper facilities that are expanding into commercial printing, MAN Roland is bringing heatset capabilities to its coldset presses. “As the worldwide leader in both commercial and newspaper press systems, we are proud to provide presses that increase our customers’ profitability by expanding their production capabilities,” Sams says. “Our proven heatset/coldset experience will help them meet the demands of an ever-changing industry by offering a wide variety of products to their customers.” MAN Roland is leading the industry with their expertise and launching an international marketing campaign at NEXPO, based on the theme “Opposites Attract.” The informational effort points to MAN Roland’s position as the top innovator in both heatset and coldset web technology, offering the best of both worlds to the market. “Newspapers will be able to lean on our expertise as the coldset and heatset leader, which will make it easier for them to access more commercial printing opportunities and attract new business,” Sams adds. Network Solutions Extending its lead in press control systems, MAN Roland will demonstrate the latest developments in its printnet production management system. The innovation networks and automates the newspaper production process from end to end. NEXPO visitors will be able to view how printnet sets new benchmarks in workflow flexibility, user communication, production security and utilization of resources. The printnet benefits that will be on display include: - Cross-site and cross-departmental networking of business and production processes - Implementation of innovative business models - Maximum production transparency - Optimization and increased flexibility of the production workflow - Reduced production and personnel costs - Later editorial and ad deadlines Total Support Solutions The continuing expansion of MAN Roland’s printservices program will be shown at the exhibit. printservices provides MAN Roland customers with total support for the life of their press, including repairs and maintenance, training, project management, upgrades, and more. A companion program — printcom — is the system components, parts and supply source for MAN Roland press users. Its latest feature, which will be demonstrated at NEXPO, is an eCommerce website called manrolandirect.com. The interactive portal connects all of our customers — sheetfed and web — to an inventory of over 100,000 spare parts and press system components — 24/7. The site was just launched last summer and already has exceeded $1.1 million in sales. “MAN Roland is proud to partner with newspapers across the country to help them find solutions that allow them to compete in an expanding media universe,” says Vince Lapinski, CEO of MAN Roland Inc. “The Applied Innovations that we bring to NEXPO can provide that assistance by offering a selection of creative solutions newspapers can implement, which will increase their profitability as well as attract new readers and advertisers.”
