RPI installs HP presses and printers for photobook production

Press release from the issuing company

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 8, 2008 – HP today announced that Reischling Press Inc. (RPI), one of the leading fulfillment and logistics providers for the printed photo products marketplace, has dramatically enhanced and expanded its digital production capabilities. The company is leveraging the industry's broadest portfolio of products and solutions – the HP Graphic Arts portfolio – for an end-to-end workflow of presses, printers and servers. The company has installed eight additional HP Indigo presses – for a total of 11 – nine HP Designjet Z6100 printers, and an HP SmartStream Ultra Print Server.

Based in Tukwila, Wash., RPI works directly with approximately 30 different photography web sites, and its high-volume fulfillment and logistics operation prints and ships the sites' photobooks, as well as calendars and other products. The company has achieved continual growth since installing its first HP Indigo press in 2005, and the dramatic volume increase in the digital printing market for these products has led RPI to double its revenues in the past three years. The presses, printers and print server from HP have enabled the firm to accommodate the growth with a cohesive solution.

"Companies like RPI create the all-important production backbone in this popular and rapidly expanding market for printed photo products ordered online," said Rich Raimondi, vice president and general manager, U.S. Graphic Arts Organization, HP. "This market may be the best example of the momentum possible in the Print 2.0 world, and we are proud to have a portfolio of industry-leading printed photo product solutions that drive profitable growth for our customers."

HP is RPI's one-stop vendor for business opportunities

RPI enjoyed streamlined financing for this significant technology installation, working with HP Financial Services to complete the entire purchase. The single point of contact for financing ensured access to the various product groups within HP to establish a robust, flexible and scalable production environment.

"With HP, we were able to get the correct configuration for our unique needs, and we obtained the best prices under the best financing terms," said John Perez, RPI's CEO. "Now, our expanded HP production operation puts us in a very competitive situation. I am impressed with HP's vision for the future in this market."

Processing power, color consistency and true photo quality

The HP SmartStream Ultra Print Server was a key addition to the installation, providing the critical processing power needed to operate smoothly through the busy holiday season. The HP Designjet printers RPI installed produce dust jackets for photobooks, while the HP DreamColor Technologies on the printers and presses ensure accurate, consistent color from device to device.

Utilizing liquid HP ElectroInk instead of toner, the HP Indigo presses provide true photo quality capable of meeting or exceeding the expectations of thousands of consumers, including professional photographers, who order products printed at RPI. The presses, primarily HP Indigo press 5000s, also print on the industry's widest range of certified digital printing media.

"HP Indigo has superior image quality and gives us greater flexibility in terms of the products we can print on it," said Perez. "We wouldn't talk about printing a photobook on anything other than an HP Indigo."
