PrintCity VAPoN Resource Book Launched

Press release from the issuing company

Augsburg, Germany, 15 April 2008 – The PrintCity Alliance announced its new Value Added Printing of Newspapers VAPoN 'Resource Book' at the WAN 2008 World Newspaper Advertising Conference in Budapest.

The PrintCity VAPoN study began in 2006 and was completed in early 2008, analysing and assessing all economic, production and operational factors involved in the many areas of value added newspaper production. The final PrintCity VAPoN report is published in the form of a 'Resource Book' in its Webline series of special reports, and is available immediately via [email protected] or from any VAPoN project team members, free of charge.

PrintCity VAPoN project team members are: Eltex, MacDermid, MAN Roland, MEGTEC, Océ, Sun Chemical and UPM. Contact details for all members can be found at www.printcity.de

This Resource Book is believed to be the only comprehensive analysis of all factors involved with value added newspaper printing & publishing. As such it is a 'must read' for all CEO's, Publishers, Advertising & Marketing Directors, Production Directors, Press Room Managers, Technical Directors and interested professionals.

The WAN Advertising Conference in Budapest was an ideal launching point for this market leading PrintCity Alliance Value Added Printing Resource Book, as the conference title was "Reaching New Audiences and Building New Revenues", with 350 participants from 64 countries.

Sabine Sirach of MAN Roland made a PrintCity VAPoN presentation together with Axel Springer's Ahrensburg Press Room Manager Christian Gaidies.

In his presentation Christian Gaidies commented, "We decided we would not sit back and watch a decline, but start a campaign demonstrating our potential for print quality" says Mr Gaidies, who described the special effects, supplements and other products as 'sexing them up to attract readers.'"

By quality printing, Mr Gaidies meant anything that adds value optically or any special pre-prints and supplements that can be inserted into the newspaper. Special inks and paper, and a wide array of new publications mean that commercial printing at Axel Springer's offset printing plant in Ahrensburg rose considerably between 2000 and 2007 because of these measures.

In conclusion Christian Gaidies said, "Newspaper printing is on the move."

In support Sabine Sirach commented, "The WAN conference presentation was a big success. I had the chance to introduce Christian Gaidies as one of our customers using many of the techniques we're analysing in the VAPoN project. The combination was very powerful.

"The statistics in the VAPoN study raised lots of interest. After our session, Christian and I were approached by many people. The users were very interested in all the findings we have."
