RIT Releases Research on Web-To-Print Architectures

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, NY (March 17, 2008) – A newly released research monograph from the Printing Industry Center at RIT analyzes the current state of Web-enabled print within the printing industry. Titled “Web-Enabled Print Architectures” (PICRM-2008-06), the monograph is authored by Adam Dewitz, a graduate student of the RIT School of Print Media. The study uses an instrument to analyze a number of Web-enabled print service providers, and contains case studies detailing the strategy behind the development of such systems at two print companies.

Key findings include:

Web-enabled print services are being deployed to meet diverse business and print application requirements.

Companies use different development strategies when building their system architec¬tures. The strategies are dependent on the company business model, industry niche, print applications, and production processes employed to manufacture the printed product.

Consumers, professional print buyers, and print service providers can all benefit from the use of Web-enabled print systems, albeit in different ways. Equipment and service providers who work with such print service providers will also benefit from the success enjoyed by such systems.
