Polestar Takes Proactive Approach To Industry Carbon Footprint

Press release from the issuing company

(July 01, 2008) At its first environmental conference yesterday, Polestar announced its plans to work with customers, suppliers and the wider print and publishing industries to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of the supply chain. The company took the opportunity to launch its web-based measurement tool to the 200-plus delegates who attended the event.

Chief Executive Barry Hibbert says: "We are aware that many of the larger organisations in the industry have of course already started looking at the issue of their carbon footprint, in line with forthcoming Government legislation. However, what we are providing through our system is the means of gaining the complete picture – from the paper mill to the retailer. It is in its infancy in terms of data, and we are extremely grateful to the Carbon Trust and SCA Paper for helping in this respect. It will grow both in terms of information being added and as we respond to requests from our customers."

He continues: "As we have done with our PrintDynamics training software, this system will be available to the wider industry and we hope that it helps towards the industry agreeing a standard. Polestar has the resources and skills that put us in the privileged position of being able to take a proactive stance on this, and that is what we intend to do."
