Transcontinental invests in Q.I. Press Controls solutions

Press release from the issuing company

(June 19, 2008)  The largest printer in Canada and the sixth-largest in North America, Transcontinental, is the country’s leading publisher of consumer magazines and French-language educational resources and is the second-largest community newspaper publisher. At their print site located in San Francisco, United States and Anjou, Canada, they will equip their MAN COLORMAN XXL presses (a total of 17 towers) with Q.I. Press Controls’ total closed loop control solution.

Anjou (Montreal) Canada

This location has two press lines, both MAN COLORMAN XXL’s each with 4 towers in a 9 cylinder satellite configuration, one press with two folders and the other with one. The presses are also equipped with a UV Dryer on the first tower and enables them, in combination the Q.I. Press Controls equipment to run high quality semi commercial work.

The press will have 6 ergonomic touch screens, 16 IDS markless closed loop colour control scanners and 12 of the new Drupa launched mRC scanners, for cut-off and side lay control running with one set of micro marks. All information is continually collected from the systems and sent to the IQM -quality information system, which is also part of the contract. IQM is a web based quality reporting system, accessible on a multisite basis. The Q.I. systems are fully integrated with the PECOM which results in a "hands-off" operation, started as soon as a job is loaded with all scanners then going into "auto mode" and the operator will only need to start the press.

San Francisco USA

Transcontinental, San Francisco has three press lines, all MAN COLORMAN XXL’s each with 3 towers in 4-high configuration and each press has its own folder (3 in total). The presses can also run semi commercial jobs by using hot air dryers for heatset on the first tower of each press line.

The press will have 3 touch screens, 18 IDS markless closed loop colour control scanners, 18 new mRC closed loop colour register scanners that run with the micro marks. Again, the systems are fully integrated to PECOM.
