The cornerstone of Agfa's GreenWorks program is its ThermoFuse™ platemaking technology. The chemistry-free :Azura and the low-chemistry :Amigo plates, both of which have a lesser impact on the environment than conventional plates, are based on Agfa Graphics' patented ThermoFuse technology. ThermoFuse physically bonds images to the plate without any chemical process.

"For a company like Agfa, developing new technologies that minimize the environmental footprint of our customers as they go about their daily production and print processes is paramount. We do our part within our own company regarding the environment, but helping our customers do this is also very important," said Susan Wittner, marketing director, Agfa Graphics, North America. "GreenWorks is devoted to helping Agfa customers maximize the results of all their own green initiatives. The program identifies those print professionals who have willingly and successfully adopted greener policies and have become environmental leaders."

Printing companies become part of Agfa's GreenWorks program through a nomination and review process by an outside agency. To qualify, they must use either Agfa Graphics' :Azura chemistry-free plates or :Amigo low-chemistry CtP plates. They must also utilize a number of other environmentally-friendly products and be involved in other efforts such as recycling, reducing waste, utilizing alternative energy sources in their plants and other similar ventures. They stand out as graphic communication companies who are more environmentally sensitive and are marketing themselves in that way.
