Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO Sept. 26, 2007 -- Sun-Times Media Group, Inc. announced today that Rick Surkamer, Vice President of Operations, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer effective October 1, 2007. Mr. Surkamer replaces John Cruickshank, who resigned last week as Chief Operating Officer and Publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times to join the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. (CBC) as Publisher of CBC News.
In addition, Sun-Times Media Group announced that Chief Executive Officer Cyrus F. Freidheim will also become Publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times. Michael Cooke will become Vice President, Editorial for all Sun-Times News Group publications in addition to his current role as Editor in Chief of the Chicago Sun-Times. Together, Mr. Freidheim and Mr. Cooke will continue the progress made by Mr. Cruickshank to solidify the Company's position in its transforming industry as the best source of local news and information in Chicago.
In his new post, Mr. Surkamer will continue to be responsible for production, distribution and procurement. In addition, he will be responsible for advertising, marketing and the operating units of the Sun-Times News Group, including the Chicago Sun-Times and all suburban titles and operations.
Mr. Surkamer, 54, joined the Company in January. Prior to January, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of Rollex Corp., a manufacturer and distributor of building products based in Elk Grove Village, Ill. He began his career in newspapers with the Chicago Tribune, where he held a variety of managerial positions in circulation, distribution and production.
"I'm delighted by this opportunity," Mr. Surkamer said. "There is a lot of energy and excitement at this Company and much potential. I am eager to continue the progress we have made so far."
"Rick is superbly talented and a natural for this important position," said Mr. Freidheim. "His extensive background in printing, manufacturing, distribution and newspapers has contributed to his effectiveness as Vice President of Operations. His ascendancy to this post will help the Company continue the momentum in our turnaround plan announced earlier this year."
