NiXPS 1.5 brings XPS viewing, printing and conversion to the Mac

Press release from the issuing company

Lochristi, Belgium - 13 September 2007 - NiXPS, a pioneer in delivering cross-platform solutions for Microsoft's XPS format, announces the availability of NiXPS 1.5. The application is the world's first to offer XPS viewing capabilities for Mac users. Built on its core NiXPS library, also available for developers, NiXPS offers a wide range of XPS editing and rendering capabilities, extending the reach and accessibility of XPS in the market.
Offering both viewing and printing capabilities, the open, XML-based XPS format is more frequently being regarded as an easily-accessed and exchangeable file format for the millions of Microsoft Vista and Office 2007 desktop users.  Indications are that a significant number of these users will start creating and exchanging documents via XPS. This creates the need for proper tools to manipulate XPS files in an interactive and automated way.
NiXPS unleashes the power of XPS, turning it into a fully interchangeable document format. Its editing capabilities enable the use of XPS in professional document workflows, offering the ability to add and extract pages or merge entire documents. NiXPS also features text editing capabilities such as search and replace, and font replacement. The new NiXPS 1.5 truly opens up XPS by adding viewing capabilities on the Mac, and the ability to export XPS to PDF.
The same powerful functionality the NiXPS desktop application has to offer is available as a C++ library, allowing software publishers to add native XPS viewing, editing and conversion to their application. Whether their application runs on PC or Mac, thanks to the NiXPS Library, developers can deploy XPS functionality today in a cost effective way and with a quick time to market.
"As an open specification and being based on XML, we see a lot of potential in XPS both as a document format and a printing technology", says Nick De Roeck, managing director of NiXPS. "Up until now the practical tools to truly enable XPS to be a success were missing. While we are still in the early days, we believe that with NiXPS 1.5 and our Library, we are delivering essential tools needed for growing adoption of XPS.
