Tianjin Newspaper Printing Co., Ltd orders Goss Universal 75 press to integrate newspaper production at new facility

Press release from the issuing company

April 10th, 2007 – The Tianjin Newspaper Printing Co., Ltd, based in Tianjin, China, has ordered a new Goss Universal 75 press with four four-high towers, two folders and six reelstands. The press will be installed during Spring 2007. After the merger of the city’s two major newspaper groups, Tianjin Daily and Tianjin Evening News in 2005, the new printing company was established. A new joint printing plant housing the Universal press will consolidate production currently serviced at two independent facilities, including primary titles The Tianjin Daily and the Tianjin Evening News plus a number of other publications. Tianjin Evening News has been a longtime Goss press user, running three Universal 45 presses and three Universal 70 presses. Zhao Xin, deputy director and principal engineer of the Tianjin Evening News printing plant, comments, “We have built a strong relationship with the Goss International team in China. Our existing presses have proven to be extremely reliable and consistently deliver the high color quality that has become our trademark. Based on this, we came to the decision to again invest in Goss equipment.” A true innovator, the Tianjin Daily News Group developed the city’s first consumer weekly, Holiday 100. Focusing on fashion, home décor, holiday destinations and ‘what’s new’ in consumer products, the newspaper stands out by using unique longer orange newsprint and colorful printing. Its fresh style has led Holiday 100 to become the city’s biggest selling weekly. Zhao comments, “Across our portfolio, we now have a total printing capacity of about 10 million broadsheet copies daily. With many of our titles expanding rapidly it’s vitally important that we streamline our operations to boost productivity to its full potential without compromising on quality. The investment in the Goss Universal 75 is a key factor in achieving this aim.” The Tianjin Daily and Tianjin Evening News sell over 250,000 copies and about 600,000 copies respectively everyday. The merged newspaper groups also publish eight other newspapers, including one of the city’s fastest growing daily titles, MeiRi Xin Bao (Morning Post), which prints approximately 300,000 copies, and the popular ChengShi Kuai Bao, which focuses mainly on local news.
