Standard Debuts Image Checking System

Press release from the issuing company

August 31, 2007 - (Andover, Massachusetts) – At Graph Expo, September 9 – 12 in Chicago, Standard Finishing Systems will launch the new Standard Horizon CCD-VAC Image Checking System, complementing the Standard Horizon VAC-60 Deep-pile Collator.  Designed for commercial printers, in-plant printers, and trade binderies, the CCD-VAC System enables collated documents to be handled with full integrity and verification.
Six high-performance CCD cameras, one per bin, are installed in the transport area on each VAC-60 Collating Tower for maximum space efficiency.  The CCD-VAC system includes a touch-screen console for centralized control, ease of operation, setup, and system monitoring. System functions are presented using an icon-based graphical interface.
The CCD-VAC cameras are setup by running a test set which calculates and stores required sensitivity level, scan size, scan location, and timing – any of these items can be changed via the touch-screen.  The cameras bring full integrity to collated documents by matching and verifying each sheet, and stopping the system if an error is found – such as an unknown sheet or pages in the wrong order.  The quality control and tracking provided by the VAC-CCD system can be extremely valuable for ISO conformity on mission-critical applications.
The VAC-60 Collator has five inches of bin capacity allowing for less frequent reloading of paper and long-run production efficiency. The VAC-60 uses the same patented rotary-pulse vacuum feeding system as the proven VAC-100, and delivers exceptional speed and productivity on nearly all paper stocks. Up to six VAC-60 towers can be combined to create 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 or 36-station collating, bookletmaking, or saddlestitching systems.
According to David Reny, managing director, Standard Finishing Systems, "The CCD-VAC System is a continuation of Horizon's strategy to bring superior technology to all areas of the bindery. Horizon has combined their expertise in precision engineering with a technologically advanced camera system that allows sensitive documents to be handled with integrity and authentication."
