Modus Print Expands On-Demand Finishing Service With Help From Total PFS

Press release from the issuing company

December 4, 2008 - Worcester-based digital print house, Modus Print has recently expanded its finishing department with the installation of a range of booklet making and laminating machinery from Total PFS.

The order, which included a Skrebba 732 Stapler, a TPF 450SA programmable digital creaser & perforator, a Total 2701 roll-fed laminating System and a reconditioned Kwikfold Booklet maker, has been installed to help the company increase the capacity of its on-demand finishing operation and reduce costs in the print production process.  The new kit will finish products printed on the company's Xerox DC250 digital press.

Says James Algar, commercial director, Modus Print: "With the commissioning of our new finishing kit, we can now offer a true on-demand digital printing and finishing service on a whole range of products that would have previously been outsourced to a specialist finishing house or finished in house using manual machines. Having an effective in-house finishing operation will help us to maintain tighter control over turnaround times and also draw costs out of the finishing process.  This is critical for businesses at any time, but especially important for a young business in an uncertain economic environment."

Mr Algar says when the decision was made to establish an in house finishing division, suppliers like Total PFS were considered, as well as a range of internet-based finishing equipment suppliers. Continues James: "We looked at a range of purchasing options but in the end we had to look at what was the best over the longer term for our business. It may appear more cost-effective to buy products over the web, but when you are in a business like this, you need robust technology supported by a knowledgeable company that can offer you the right level of service and support.

"It's about the total cost of ownership over the lifecycle of a product, not just the shelf price. I have dealt with the team at Total PFS in the past - they know the market well, and can advise on the right products for my business. It's all about having confidence in your supplier. In the end, it was a straightforward decision to place the order with Total PFS."

Says Clive Richardson, joint managing director, Total PFS: "Modus Print is a good example of a company that has carefully weighed up all the options saw the real benefits of buying from a company that understands the market and has the knowledge to help its customers grow their businesses by providing them with great finishing technology and consultancy."

Modus Print was established in January 2008 by parent company, Modus Creative, following a strategic decision by the board to augment its creative and design services with a stand alone digital printing service.  In addition to its extensive local customer base the company is also producing digital print for an increasing number of national blue chip clients. The company also runs a printing.com 'bolt-on' franchise to complement its digital operation.
